CobbFendley is currently providing professional services for the widening of South Street (West Drive to US 183), the widening of West Drive (South Street to north of Horseshoe Drive), and the realignment of the intersection of South Street and West Drive. The project involves the preliminary engineering and PS&E development for the widening of approximately 4,000 linear feet of roadway from a 2-lane undivided local road to a 3-lane undivided road with a continuous left turn lane, curb and gutter, and street parking. Because the project is located within the City’s Old Town District, the focus of the roadway design is to provide alignments and layouts that balance the needs of vehicular and pedestrian mobility.

Our services include a full corridor study with alternatives analysis to determine the optimal alignment and traffic configurations. Additional services include traffic analyses that determine best improvements at intersections, access management improvements, overhead to underground utility relocations, illumination, a new storm sewer system, schematic design, geotechnical investigations, environmental assessments, roadway and pavement design, signal design, surveying and mapping, utility coordination and design, and bid and construction phase services. CobbFendley is working with TxDOT and the City of Leander to coordinate the US 183 intersection.

The project also includes close coordination with adjacent property owners, including the Leander Independent School District (LISD) administrative offices and three LISD schools as well as businesses and single family residences that all abut the roadway corridor. CobbFendley has worked closely with the City’s planning team on the Old Town Master Plan recommendations and developing a design that incorporates the design of a walkable downtown area with the mobility needs of the surrounding community.
