Congratulations to CobbFendley Survey Technician and Emerging Leader Lonnie McKnight and his team for taking home first place in the two year division of the 2019 NSPS Student Competition in Arlington, Virginia. As part of a three-person team of students from CNM’s Surveying Technology program, Lonnie developed a project centered on the topic “Utilizing Remotely Sensed Data in a Modern Surveying Practice” – using drone flight, LiDAR scanning, and setting control points to demonstrate the use of remotely sensed information to supplement, enhance, or replace the collection of terrestrial data on traditional mapping projects. Lonnie and his team chose to survey an area of New Mexico around the Gillman Tunnels.
