Our Work
Kirby Drive Overhead to Underground Utility Relocation
CobbFendley served as the lead design engineer relocating aerial utilities from existing poles to new underground locations for this high profile streetscape project in Houston. CobbFendley’s strong background and expertise in utility coordination was a benefit to the client because of the multiple stakeholders engaged in this project. CobbFendley met with each of the eight impacted utility companies to perform a field investigation to verify their record information and service locations and to determine their required number of ducts and future location of handholes.
After obtaining this information, CobbFendley developed a master alignment for the two proposed ductbanks, including a joint trench for the telecommunications, cable TV, Transtar lines, and the electric distribution line. Upon approval of the alignment, CobbFendley prepared plan and profile construction plans and specifications that were included in the roadway reconstruction plans and took into account the new landscaping and beautification features. During the construction phase, CobbFendley reviewed and approved shop drawings, answered requests for information, reviewed change order requests, attended bi-weekly progress meetings, and performed field visits during the construction of the duct banks.
