Our Work
Fondren Road from US 59 To Westpark Tollway
CobbFendley performed preliminary engineering and prepared Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) for Fondren Road from US 59 northbound frontage road to the Westpark Tollway off-ramp. The project involved reconstruction of 1.7 miles of a 6-lane divided concrete curb and gutter thoroughfare within an available 100-foot ROW including storm sewer trunk ranging from 24-inch RCP to 8×5-foot RCB, sanitary sewer rehabilitation of varying sizes, installation of 16-inch water main, reconstruction of 14 intersecting streets, four of which are signalized, and street lighting.
The project also involved incorporation of concrete pavers at Bellaire Boulevard in addition to design and construction of 0.75 miles of brick wall/fencing along Fondren Road. The Traffic Control Plan for the corridor was rather extensive due to heavy traffic volumes near the Sharpstown Mall and at Bellaire Boulevard and Harwin Drive intersections, along with high METRO bus ridership along Fondren Road. The project required close coordination with the existing private utility owners along the corridor to avoid conflicts with the proposed roadway improvements. In addition to design and construction administration, CobbFendley was responsible for the construction management and inspection services for this project. The construction cost for this project was $19.5 million.
