Bellaire Boulevard at Fondren Road Traffic Signal Design

CobbFendley performed a signal design for the intersection of Bellaire Boulevard at Fondren Road located in Houston, Texas. The project included reusing existing custom traffic signal mast arms, loop detector vehicle detection, LED pedestrian signals with accessible push buttons, LED traffic signal heads, signal controller, battery backup unit (BBU) and service source identification and location. This project also included a construction sequence signal design for the temporary signal while Fondren Road and the permanent signal improvements were constructed. Careful consideration was made to design a proposed traffic signal that least impacted the existing custom traffic signal poles which aided in keeping project costs down. A layout of the existing signal poles, signal heads, overhead signs, detection, power supply, conduit and signal controller was prepared using MicroStation. These were field verified during the field inspection in which digital photography of the intersection was collected. Cost estimates and specifications in accordance to City of Houston standards were also developed.
